Diogenes Cup III
$35.00
Soda-fired stoneware with atmospheric shino-style glaze. I formulated this clay body to go into the soda kiln unglazed, and come out with creamy whites and oranges, like traditional shino glazes.
Holds 10 oz./300ml. 3.5 in. tall, 3.5 in. across.
Diogenes was an eccentric philosopher in ancient Greece. He was known to sleep outside Athens inside an overturned ceramic tub. He had no possessions save a simple cup. From this cup he drank everything, from water to wine.
One day, Diogenes saw a child scooping water from a stream in his cupped hand, and drinking. Diogenes cast away his one remaining possession, having found another way to simplify his life.
I hope this cup will serve you as well as Diogenes’ cup did, and that you keep it as long as it remains meaningful to you.
This vessel is food-safe. I recommend it be hand-washed, and kept out of the microwave to maximize its longevity. It contains no known toxic materials.
